Video Production & Editing

Music - "Run On" by Moby.

Small production group of 6 people. Supplied with a script written by one of the group members, from that a storyboard was developed. As a group we planned a production date and location shoot, and organised our equipment and props. We were so well organised and planned, that we  didn't have any issues during the shoot, we managed to complete all footage with multiple cameras and locations within only 8 hours.

We each edited the raw footage individually and added audio and titles/credits, and submitted for assessment.

Character Design & Animation

Drug Fiend Friends

The Concept
Comical cartoon episode about drugs and alcohol, and their effects on behaviour.
Target Audience - Teenagers
Aim - To be published on YouTube and be passed between friends.

Reasoning
All useful information on the internet in regard to drugs and alcohol is text based and aimed at the parents. The other videos on YouTube when searching for "drugs and alcohol" are not likely to be viewed by teenagers browsing for entertainment.

Teens are not going to want to watch gross and freaky physical long-term effects of drug and alcohol abuse. Nor do they search for anti-drug and alcohol campaigns on YouTube. Nor would they chose to view text-based factual information.

In my research I came across a video that was silly and truthful. 10 Drugs not to take while driving. I believe this concept worked, it is likely that the younger generation would pay attention and pass it between friends, not because it is sickening, it is funny.

3D Imaging and Animation

An Attic

Lighting & Fog

Working with light, reflections, shadow and fog in Maya was fantastic, there are so many different options available. It was very attentive to get the desired result, somewhat pedantic in my aim for perfection.

illuminated fog

In my 3D environment, fog is extremely important to make the scene realistic. As my attic is meant to look neglected, there needed to have lots of dust floating in the atmosphere.
All of this fog meant much longer rendering times.

The 18 second HD video original version (no compression) took 6 hours to render. I can't imagine how many frames are rendered to produce a feature length Pixar animation...

Video Art

Festival Promotional Video
Video Art

Music - "The Fourth Revelation" by Astrix.
Images - Original Photography by myself, Benjamin Tolmie, and Clare Blakebrough.

Aim & Purpose
I created a stimulating and unique promotional video clip for a music festival, which is to be used as advertising on the internet as well as on a big screen. It is an interesting and psychedelic hybrid piece that portrays the essence of the festival atmosphere.  The images and their movement represent the sound being heard, reflecting the festival ambiance.

I drew the tree with pen, scanned it into Photoshop, then vectorized the image in Adobe Illustrator.

I created the background image in Photoshop, then placed six backgrounds as a cube surrounding the tree in After Effects.

I am very happy with the text animation. After a lot of experimentation with different transformations, wiggles and fades, I achieved exactly what I wanted. I believe it portrays the theme of the movie, and the audience would gain some sort of mood/feeling/insight into what the film is about.
